![]() Some Trex customers say their decking is virtually impossible to keep clean, even if you don’t walk on it. Although many homeowners still have older style decking. So, what are the biggest problems with Trex decking, and what can you do about them? Now it seems more people are becoming dissatisfied with the longevity and quality of Trex products. Going public in 1999, Trex has become the world’s largest manufacturer of wood alternative decking products offering the industry’s widest array of composite deck products, which are available in more than 40 countries around the world. Since that time Trex has diligently worked to revise, expand, and perfect their line of composite decking products. In 1996 Trex launched its line of composite decking products to rave reviews and revolutionized the decking industry. I'm open to constructive discussion on my install plan. Conventional wisdom probably say's stagger the joints and I'm not ruling that out. Should be plenty to get a firm seam with extra clips and maybe some exterior finish screws if needed. Because those joists are short in length ( about 54 " ) I plan on scabbing in on either side of the " seam joist " two more piece of 2X giving 4 1/2 " of joist. If those seams open up yes it will stand out but it will be limited to those 10 boards on each end. The seams will all be in single file BUT only across 10 boards. There will be no seams at all on the " square " portions but there will be one seam on each walkway. I really don't like the look and that's why I'm planning on 20 ' pieces. The width of the squares is about 18 ' 2 " and currently the 5/4 wood is random pieces in length so LOTS of end seams. ![]() The walkway is accessed from the house by double French doors. My deck runs the entire length of the house on the back, it is basically two large squares joined by a central walkway. Hopefully some of you have real world experience with the latest product Trex is putting out. Our last house had Trex or similar installed by previous owner and it held up OK in my opinion. I will be installing this myself if that matters. The Trex they will be selling is grooved on each side for hidden fastener installation and has several reinforcing ridges on the bottom of each board. a qty of 78 twenty footers it would be $2.00 L.F. I went and talked with them and for what I need. If we assume the reviews were correct is the product being sold today better quality than in the past ? A local specialty yard has recently picked up the Trex line they are actually waiting for their 1st shipment of product to arrive. Trex decking has had a spotty reputation in the past if you believe internet reviews. Hopefully this is the correct section of the forum.
